Google has announced that Google AI will update business information automatically. It will use artificial intelligence (AI), a machine-learning (ML) technology, to update real-world information and business hours. These initiatives aim to give users more current information about changes in the neighborhood.
More Accurate Information
Although AI research began in the 1950s, profound learning breakthroughs are very recent. This is because machine learning has advanced significantly since 2010. Better to understand from Edo Liberty, the former head of Amazon's AI lab and current CEO of Pinecone,
"From my own experience, I found that ML algorithms no longer represent bottlenecks. They are not perfect, and there is still much to do, but they are moving at breakneck speed."
He added that,
"SEOs have mastered PageRank algorithms, but they need to be able to master NLP to win over the competition. NLP, unlike PageRank, is rapidly growing and has many contributors.
NLP isn't as mysterious as PageRank, even though it is more complex. Much of the work in NLP is done openly, with many free research papers and open-source software.
NLP is here to stay. Although it is far from perfect, it is improving rapidly, and the big tech companies are destroying keyword search."
Google AI Will Update Business Information
COVID-19 has changed how many businesses operate, and it also affected the hours that restaurants and retailers are open. Google created a machine-learning model to identify if business hours might be wrong automatically. Google immediately updates the company profile with AI-generated predictions after incorrect hours have been identified. A profile may show that a business is closed Mondays but has not been updated for over a year.
Google will update hours automatically if it finds that its busiest hours fall on Monday evenings. Google also uses Street View images to determine hours of operation signs. It then asks local guides and business owners for help to confirm its predictions.
Google Duplex is an AI system like the Google PaLM algorithm that allows users to communicate with each other and perform real-world tasks with computers over the phone. Business owners can use it to contact them. Google expects that this technology will enable it to update the hours for more than 20 million businesses in the next six months.
ML Updates Real-World Road Conditions
Google also revealed that it is exploring other ways images can be used for AI and machine learning. It is launching a pilot for third-party imagery in the U.S. to provide the latest speed limit information.
This technology's goal is to increase driver safety and make driving easier. Google plans to add information on potholes, school zones, and construction.
Understanding Historical Busyness Data
Google has analyzed anonymized and aggregated Location History data from users. These have turned this setting on via their Google Account to calculate busyness insights. This data helps Google estimate how busy a location is during the week. They use the busiest hour as our benchmark and then show busyness data relative to that hour for all other week hours.
Data Privacy is Core Focus
Google AI will update business information automatically is the great news. But, privacy is a critical component of this pilot. Google will use only public roads for reference images, and partners should blur any identifying information, such as license plates and faces. After Google receives an image, it blurs the photo again and deletes it after updating the map.
