Google has stated that although some users have noticed ‘things to know’ are being tested, the feature will not be made live anytime soon. It may be a collapsible outline that shows you how other searchers have explored the topic you’re interested in learning more about.
Refine the Search
Google has discussed this feature in ‘Search On.’ They claimed that the “Refine this search” tools allow users to narrow their Search about a subject or broaden it to more general topics. It is now possible to see it show up for various search queries. Here is an example:
Broaden This Search
“Broaden this search” features allow users to be more specific on a particular topic or zoom out to generic topics. You’ll now be able to look it up in a variety of searches. Here is a screenshot:
Thing to Know
Google seems to be testing displaying the ‘Things To Know’ section in the Google search results more often. As we mentioned above, Google is indeed testing it, but it’s not yet fully operational.
US English
Google stated that ‘Refine the Result’ and ‘Broaden the Search’ are now available in English within the US Google results for searches.
Refine This Search Doesn’t Utilize MUM
Google has confirmed that the features do not utilize MUM as of now. Danny Sullivan of Google posted that the Things to know the feature is not currently using MUM. As I wrote earlier this month, MUM has been used in just two applications within Search so far.
Google confirms that its services don’t yet utilize MUM. But, Google did tell us,
“We anticipate that applying MUM to “things to know” will allow us to discover more depth of information. It will also assist users in discovering the details more quickly.”
The latest search features could cause searchers to find new ways to find your website in Google Search, and it can also deter searchers from even clicking your site’s snippet in the results they consider. Whatever the case, Google is constantly trying new features for Search, and keeping on top of the changes made to Google Search can be beneficial for many users of search marketing.
