More Descriptive Name and Context in Google Structured Data Error Reporting

Reading Progress

Today, Google has released more specific, descriptive, and contextually helpful names for the structured data error reporting. It appears in Google Search Console rich result status reports, the Google Search Console URL inspection tool, and the Rich Results Test.

Then, Daniel Waisberg of Google clarified on Twitter,

Google explained, even if you haven't modified the structure of your data markup:

  • Google will automatically close all open issues related to nested properties. For instance, the missing field "name" issue in the above example.
  • There will be new open issues with more details regarding what's not working. For instance, the problem will read Missing field "name" (in "author". To prevent overloading Search Console users with emails, Google won't send notifications when a new issue is created.

If you had previously requested Google Search Console to validate a fix before the change, you'd have to revalidate the new issues that have been changed. Google added that

“This is simply a change in the issue name, it will not affect how Search Console detects errors. New issues will replace all the issues which are closed with the additional context in the issue name. “

How does Google Structured Data Error Reporting Impacts You?

Google published a note on this page giving more information about how this will impact your closed and open issues visually:

Search Console changed the naming pattern of several structured data issues. This pattern includes incorporating the names of the element containing them in the issue's name. We closed all of the affected issues and then opened the related issues using the updated name pattern. There are no changes in the number of affected entities on your website due to this, but you'll be able to see the changes in the history of your issues. We have removed the email notifications associated with this modification. We hope that you will enjoy the new issue naming schema helpful.
